Broncos targeting veteran QB Aaron Rodgers: report
Pro Football Talk reported Wednesday that the Denver Broncos are considering Aaron Rodgers for their roster. The four-time NFL MVP signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason and enters free agency at age 42. Rodgers has not ruled out a return for the 2026 season, leaving the Steelers in a holding pattern.
The NFL's new league year began last week, with the draft approaching in weeks. Rodgers started 16 games for Pittsburgh last season, throwing 24 touchdowns and helping the Steelers capture the AFC North title for the first time in five years. Pittsburgh fell to the Houston Texans in the wild-card playoff round.
Denver head coach Sean Payton, a Super Bowl winner with the New Orleans Saints, has yet to secure a second championship with a different franchise.
Bo Nix has led the Broncos' quarterback room over the past two seasons but suffered an ankle injury during their AFC divisional playoff victory over the Buffalo Bills. Jarrett Stidham started the AFC title game loss to the New England Patriots, while Nix rehabs with no firm return timetable.
A veteran addition would provide Denver insurance amid Nix's recovery, potentially in time for training camp. Rodgers has made no official visit to the Broncos this offseason. Pittsburgh plans to open 2026 with Will Howard and Mason Rudolph at quarterback.
