Love Breaks Silence on Jacobs Arrest, Calls News a Shock
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love publicly addressed the arrest of running back Josh Jacobs for the first time during organized team activities on Tuesday, saying he was caught off guard when news of the incident became public. Jacobs was booked into Brown County Jail on May 26 following a police response to a domestic disturbance complaint and was released the following day. He has since returned to the practice field while the Brown County District Attorney's Office reviews the evidence before making a formal charging decision.
Jacobs faces five charges stemming from the incident, including a felony count of strangulation and suffocation and misdemeanor counts of battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and intimidation of a victim. His legal team has denied the allegations, publicly calling for what it described as fairness and restraint. No formal charges have been filed as the prosecutorial review remains ongoing.
"I was shocked when I saw it," Love told reporters Tuesday. He acknowledged that significant uncertainty remains as the legal process continues. "There's a lot of uncertainty when you hear something like that, of what might happen. But we'll see, we'll let it play out and go from there." Love added that internal discussions have taken place within the organization, though he indicated specifics are being withheld out of respect for both the situation and the active legal proceedings. "Everyone knows what the situation is there," he said. "Everyone's keeping that under wraps right now."
Jacobs, a Pro Bowl running back, signed with Green Bay ahead of the 2024 season after spending his first five NFL seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite the unresolved legal matter, Love said Jacobs has been a full participant in OTAs. "It's great to have Josh here with us, being able to work with us and getting back to work," Love said. The Packers have otherwise kept their public response to a minimum, with Love's comments representing the organization's most substantive on-record acknowledgment of the situation to date. The team and Jacobs' future status will remain unsettled until the District Attorney reaches a charging decision.
