McIlroy backs PGA Tour openness to LIV returnees as good business
Rory McIlroy said the PGA Tour should welcome back LIV Golf players if they choose to return, calling it good business practice. Speaking at the Truist Championship, the Northern Irish golfer referenced PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp's view that strengthening the tour and DP World Tour benefits everyone. McIlroy added that opting against a return says something about a player's competitive drive.
McIlroy's comments follow Brooks Koepka's return to the PGA Tour and Patrick Reed's planned comeback next year. The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund-backed LIV Golf faces uncertainty, with the fund set to end support after this season. LIV recently retained Ducera Partners LLC to seek long-term investment partners.
Bryson DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open winner, indicated he might focus on YouTube full-time if LIV folds, citing his channel's appeal.
McIlroy's stance reflects his shifting views on LIV since its 2022 launch, which fractured professional golf.
